The Calgary Police Service has charged a woman in connection with a threat on a naturist swim event.

On Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, police received a report of a threat to the Southland Leisure Centre in relation to a naturist swim event planned for the following weekend. Following a risk assessment that took into consideration the threat, a decision was made by Calgary Recreation to cancel the event.

 Thursday, the City of Calgary canceled a private swim event at Calgary’s Southland Leisure Centre to be hosted by Calgary Nude Recreation. The city didn’t suspend the event because the swimmers were going to be naked. It canceled because of an online mob, whipped to a frenzy on social media, made such vile and virulent threats that the city actually feared for the physical safety of the naturists. Officials with Calgary Nude Recreation say the group has met the criteria outlined by the City of Calgary for hosting their private nude events and the next naked swim has been scheduled for February 11 at an undisclosed location.

A small-business owner and United Church minister are preparing to bare it all for their third season of Women’s Naked Swim for a Cause.

Helene Caron and Christina Paradela will shed their clothes Oct. 22 at the Dundas pool, and invite other women to join in.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with refreshments. The doors will then be locked from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for the free swim. Women of all shapes, sizes and ages are welcome. A minimum donation of $5 is requested; all donations over $20 will be receipted. Read More
