nudist beaches 09 08 2018

While living in Barcelona, Radhika Sanghani has made it her mission to visit as many as she can this summer.
I’m ON a beach on the; Costa Brava. The sand is smooth and white, the sea is turquoise and clear, and there is naked flesh everywhere.

It is impossible to escape. There are families running around with bits dangling, older couples with lined folds and bronzed women slathering their bodies in factor 30. No matter where I turn I’m confronted with bums and boobs.

The sight is overwhelming. I have never seen so much nudity. In my normal London life, the closest I get to public undressing is in the yoga changing rooms, or the occasional topless sunbathing session at the Hampstead ladies’ pond — where you have to put your bikini back on before you go for a swim.

Tyagarah beach

Twenty years of nude bathing at Tyagarah beach is set to continue after Byron Shire Council voted to retain its clothing optional status despite a staff recommendation to end it.

The hotly contested issue went down to the wire, with a group of residents flanking the entrance to the Council Chambers ahead of Thursday’s (October 19) meeting carrying signs calling for the beach’s status to be revoked.

Seven people spoke at public access supporting the call for closure with Mayor Simon Richardson doubling their allocated speaking time.

nude yoga field 1The UK's official naturist organization has seen a boost in membership for the first time in 15 years after hosting public bare all events designed to make nude lifestyles more mainstream.

British Naturism reported this week its representatives had swelled by nearly 10 percent this year, with the increase partly credited to a shift in approach away from behind-closed-doors functions to public outings including trips to restaurants, theatres and galleries.

Naked yoga and running classes were also said to have helped encourage newcomers to the movement as well as outdoor festivals such as Nudefest and Nudestock.

Taking part in naturist activities can help make us significantly more satisfied with our bodies and lives, new research from Goldsmiths, University of London has found.

Researchers led by Dr. Keon West (Department of Psychology) investigated the associations between naturist activity and psychological well-being, as well as the immediate effects of two real naturist events on participants’ life-satisfaction.

The first study - an online survey of some 850 British people of a variety of ages, ethnicities and religions - found that those who spent time naked or partially naked around others (eg. topless sunbathing or taking part in World Naked Cycle Rides), also liked their own bodies more, thought better of themselves, and were more satisfied with their lives overall.

Club Orient

Club Oreient farewellFor those of you who have been following our postings online or read the emails we have previously sent, what we’re about to say should not come as a total shock. But, please read it carefully and understand the following only affects Orient Beach Club (OBC), which employs all of the staff and operates the resort. The Copropriété (Copro) which owns the land on which Club Orient is built and is similar to an HOA is responsible for the vast majority of structures.

OBC received its insurance money in full on October 31, 2017, which included business interruption insurance. It has now been over a year that OBC has been waiting for the Copro to receive its money, so the rebuilding can begin.
OBC has had to pay “chomage partiel”, which is similar to unemployment in some countries, but different in that the company must pay out 85% of an employee’s actual wages and is reimbursed at only a percentage of minimum wage rates. This form of unemployment has been a very expensive proposition.
